Today, I am thankful...

...to be a United States citizen. I loaded up my children and drove to my voting place this morning. I wanted my children to see what it looked like. I wanted them to remember this day, after all, history will be made either way it ends.
It wasn't very many years ago that a woman or African-American could even vote, let alone be a name on the ballot for President or Vice-President. We have come a long way.

Today, I did not vote based on feeling or popularity. I had to really pour over the information given us. I had to look at the candidates history...I had to THINK. I had to STUDY. At the end, it was still my decision. I know many countries where that liberty is not afforded to anyone.

My children do not really know who I even voted for. One of my pet-peeves is when a child, or anyone for that matter, spouts off at the mouth about who should be president when they have no idea what they are talking about. My teen-ager is learning, my eight year old too, but they have no idea what the real issues are really about. I want them to learn, understand and choose what is right by their conscience - they will have to live with their choices, right?
On a fun note, my daughter took some pictures to help remember this day in history and I even stopped by Starbucks for my free coffee...of course, you know that I waited until I got home and added some pumpkin spice creamer to it! ;] Rock the vote, people!
